Watch Free Movies Online

What all these movies have in common is that they are available for viewing online free of charge. They might be part of the free movie catalog on a free movie site that also offers pay to stream films. They might be available on an all free site such as Crackle. Watching these free movies online does not require a subscription, a rental fee or a purchase of any kind. They're an easy answer to the question of how to watch movies for free online.

Free Online Movie Streaming Sites

You won't need to sign up for anything in order to watch free movies online. You don't need to have a subscription or an account with these sites in order to watch these movies. But the sites don't know who you are. They may require that you enter your birth date to verify that you're old enough to watch movies intended for mature audiences. All the movies should be able to stream without download, and you often can watch in HD movie quality. Use Yidio to sort by IMDB Score or Rotten Tomatoes.

Sometimes, streaming platforms will use free content to entice viewers to explore other content on the platform. Some TV networks, for example, will offer a limited number of episodes of the current season of TV series for free. These episodes are free to watch for a limited time. But if you want to watch entire seasons or older episodes, you'll often have to pay extra or sign up for a paid subscription.

Thousands of Free Online Movies

The catalogs of free content on these platforms can be extensive. Tubi offers thousands of free movies and TV shows, all of it available for free, no subscription or credit card required. Vudu has a library of more than 150,000 movies. Many of these movies are available for purchase or rental. But many of them, as well as many complete TV series seasons, are available at no charge.

Peacock, a new service from NBCUniversal, offers hundreds of movies and thousands of TV episodes from the media giant's catalog. And it's all free to stream on the platform's website. Crackle offers an impressive catalog of theatrical movies. And it also offers a library of original series and movies you can only watch on the Crackle platform. The Roku Channel offers hundreds of movie, live news and TV series. Some have complete seasons. All this is free to viewers who use Roku streaming devices.

Free Movies on Streaming Websites

The no-charge content on these platforms is a little different from the free trials offered by many subscription streaming services. The content on Crackle or Peacock, for example, is available without the need to set up an account on the platform. You also don't have to provide any payment information. Free-trial services work a little differently. Many premium streaming platforms offer free trial periods during which you can watch their content without paying. The same is true of many network streaming platforms. The difference is that you'll need to sign up for an account on the platform and provide payment information. You won't be charged a subscription fee during the free-trial period. But if you don't cancel by the time the trial period ends, your account will automatically convert to a paid subscription. You'll be charged the subscription fee.

Keeping Free Movies Online

Of course, there's often a trade-off involved when it comes to watching movies for free. Sites often subsidize their free streaming movies offerings by including advertising along with the films. Movies may be prefaced with an ad or two. Sometimes there will be periodic commercial breaks throughout the movie. The ads are generally as unobtrusive as ads can be. And in the case of TV series, the experience is much like watching an episode on traditional broadcast TV. The ads allow the streaming platform to make money without charging the viewer a subscription fee. They're crucial to keeping the content free of charge. Many viewers find that it's worth a few commercials to avoid paying a subscription or rental fee.

movies on free websites

[Updated: 11/4/24] Apps and sites like Crackle, Freevee, Peacock, Pluto TV, Tubi, Vudu and YouTube all have free movies online for you to stream. The only catch: You have to watch ads. On the plus side, while there are commercial interruptions, the movies are not edited for content like they are on broadcast channels. Which means you can still watch uncut movies and with fewer total interruptions than television airings.

And did we mention the movies were free ?

Which movies should you watch, though, now that you know where to find them? Rotten Tomatoes did some digging and sorted through the free movie catalogs of Peacock, Fandango At Home, Tubi, Freevee, YouTube, and Crackle to find the 100 best movies available to watch for free right now. These films, all Fresh on the Tomatometer, include Oscar winners, blockbusters, comedy classics, informative documentaries, and family favorites — all available to watch for free.

Check out our list of the Freshest movies to watch free online to find something new without paying rental or subscription fees.

' sborder=

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004)

' sborder=

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues (2013)

Critics Consensus: It’s just as uneven and loosely structured as the first Anchorman — and while Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues may not be quite as quotable, it’s nearly as funny as its predecessor.

Boogie Nights (1997)

Critics Consensus:  Grounded in strong characters, bold themes, and subtle storytelling, Boogie Nights is a groundbreaking film both for director P.T. Anderson and star Mark Wahlberg.

One of the biggest drawbacks to the golden age of streaming we all find ourselves in now is the cost of all of these various streaming platforms. Netflix , Disney+, Max, and more all offer a great level of variety, but they also all seem to be getting more and more expensive every year . If only there were some streaming platforms out there that had a vast library of feature films that could be watched completely free of charge.

Luckily, there are several great platforms that offer hundreds of movies for the low price of 0 dollars, and we're not talking about any shady websites that are going to give your computer a virus here. These are 100% licensed, legitimate, and safe-to-use websites, most of which don't even require a sign-up or log-in. Want to find your next free and favorite streaming platform? Read below to find out about just some of our favorites.

One of the most prevalent free streaming platforms out there is Tubi, which has a truly absurd amount of content available on it completely free of charge. Just about everything from any genre can be found on Tubi, ranging from all-time well-known classics to complete diamonds in the rough. The line-up of films currently available on Tubi includes Art the Clown 's ( David Howard Thornton ) first solo debut in Terrifier , the first entry into the Monterverse with Godzilla , and Charlton Heston 's groundbreaking epic Ben-Hur .

We aren't exactly sure why Amazon owns three different streaming platforms, but we are glad Freevee is one of them. Prime Video already has one of the best movie selections out there in the streaming world, and some of its offerings can be watched free of charge with Freevee. Examples of what's available on Freevee are Andrew Garfield 's The Amazing Spider-Man , Ryan Reynolds ' Pokémon: Detective Pikachu , and Ben Stiller 's Madagascar .

Watch More on Freevee

One of the biggest video-sharing websites on the planet, YouTube once tried (and failed) to launch its own streaming platform with YouTube Red. Still, not only is the website still home to a variety of movies available via VOD, but there are also some free options as well. This includes the endlessly imaginative The LEGO Movie , the mysterious thriller Gone Girl , and John Rambo's ( Sylvester Stallone ) debut in First Blood .

Libby isn't a streaming service perse, but the library platform does indeed have several feature films available to those with a library card. This is possible through partnership with services like Kanopy, which has a wide variety of reputable feature films, such as Moonlight , Lady Bird , and Eighth Grade .

Watch More on Libby

Pluto TV is another excellent free service that offers both live television channels and an extensive list of on-demand content. In fact, Pluto TV might just have one of the best film line-ups we've seen yet, as it includes all-time classics like The Godfather , Forrest Gump , and Catch Me If You Can .

Watch More on Pluto TV

Fandango may be best known for selling tickets to theatrical feature films, but they also have their own streaming and VOD platform with Vudu. Here you'll be able to find the '80s fantasy flick Ladyhawke , the disaster comedy Joe Versus the Volcano , and the horror-comedy Tucker & Dale vs. Evil .

Watch More on Vudu

Many tend to forget that Sony has their own streaming platform, but it does indeed still exist with Crackle. Here you'll find the horror classic Halloween , the crime biopic Bronson , and the absurd dark comedy Willy's Wonderland .

Watch More on Crackle

Crunchyroll

If you're an anime fan, then there's a good chance you already use Crunchyroll somewhat frequently. While the bulk of their content consists of anime shows, Crunchroll does have some decent movies in its catalog, such as Fullmetal Alchemist: The Conqueror of Shamballa , Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie , and Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland .

Watch More on Crunchyroll

The Roku Channel

Roku has slowly been rising the ranks of the free streamers out there, as a good chunk of televisions have Roku already installed. Their films include quality original content like the Emmy-winning Weird: The Al Yankovic Story as well as recognizable hits like Knives Out and The Matrix .

Watch More on Roku

Another stellar free streaming option is Plex, which like many of the other services on this list, features free films and VOD offerings. On the free side of things, it's here where you'll be able to watch Reservoir Dogs , Snowpiercer , Evil Dead II , and more.

Watch More on Plex

Similar to Libby, Hoopla also requires a free library card to use, but it also comes complete with a huge and vast library of free content. Among the offerings are Thelma , The Truman Show , and Ella Enchanted .
