Frequently asked questions
What devices can i connect to the 5g modem.
You can connect any Wi-Fi capable devices on your premises to the 5G modem, from PCs to notebooks, and set top boxes to smart appliances. You can also connect up to 4 devices via ethernet using the 4 ports on the 5G modem, and a USB device via the modem’s USB port.
Why do I have 5G on my mobile, but can’t get 5G Business Internet at my address?
Your business premises may be in an area that hasn’t got 5G coverage yet. Or you may be in a 5G area, but that area has reached its maximum capacity of 5G Business services.
What happens if 5G maximum capability has already been reached?
5G Business services are limited. If the maximum capacity for 5G Business services in your area has been reached, then you won’t get the best possible experience. If this is the case, we won’t be able to complete your 5G Business Internet order.
Remember, we offer a range of internet services built for business.

How do I set up my 5G modem?
Set up is super easy. The advanced 5G modem connects wirelessly to the Telstra 5G mobile network so there are no ethernet cables. Just plug it in where you get the strongest 5G signal on your premises, as close to a window as possible. A strong signal will be indicated by a green light on your modem. The 5G modem will then connect with your devices via Wi-Fi.
You can use the modem placement tool in the My Telstra app to help find a strong signal.

Does the 5G Business Internet plan come with a landline?
No, the 5G Business Internet plan does not support a landline or fixed phone line service. All our nbn plans include a landline at no extra cost.
To explore our nbn service, visit business nbn plans .
Could I use more than 1TB of data a month?
You could, but it’s unlikely. 1 terabyte (TB) is a thousand gigabytes (GB) of data.
To give you an idea, we estimate that you could do all of the following activities and still use less than 1TB in a month:
- Send and receive 40,000 emails
- Use the internet for 2,000 hours
- Stream high-definition videos for 365 hours or 171 hours for 4K video
- Post to social media for 5,600 hours.
What happens if I do go over the 1TB allowance?
You won't be charged, but your speed will be slowed to 25Mbps. To help you manage your usage, we let you know when you've hit 50, 85 and 100% of your data.
You can check your usage within the My Telstra app .
What if I’m not eligible for 5G Business Internet?
We’re expanding our 5G Business Internet footprint all the time, so keep returning to this page to check if your address becomes eligible.
Do I have to cancel my existing internet service when I connect to 5G Business Internet?
Yes, once you’ve confirmed you’re happy with your 5G Business Internet service, you’ll need to cancel your existing internet service if you want to avoid paying for two connections.
To cancel your existing business internet service, contact us .
If I’m not happy, can I cancel my 5G Business Internet and go back to my old internet plan?
We recommend not cancelling your existing internet service while you try 5G Business Internet, to make sure it’s right for you.
If you haven’t cancelled your existing internet service, you can simply cancel the 5G business service and return the 5G modem to us in good working order.
How do I cancel my 5G Business Internet plan?
To cancel your 5G Business Internet plan, call us on 13 20 00 . Once your service is cancelled, you must return the modem within 21 days of cancellation to avoid late return fee.
We’ll send you an email with an eParcel consignment ID. Then, simply take your eParcel consignment ID and 5G modem to your nearest Australia Post store and they’ll take care of it from there. We’ll cover the postage so there’s no cost to your business.
This is the easiest way to return the 5G modem and allows you to track the modem on its journey back to us. If you already cancelled your existing internet service, you’ll need to take up a new plan.
How fast is 5G Business Internet?
5G Business Internet has average download speeds of 300Mbps (9am-5pm). The service has a typical download speed range of 30-600Mbps (9am-5pm). Speeds will change over time.
Speeds experienced may be slower over Wi-Fi and can also be impacted by other factors such as the distance and line of sight between the serving 5G mobile tower and the modem, the number of users online, where your modem is located and how far you are from it, weather, congestions and your on-premises set up.
Can I use my existing internet at the same time as 5G Internet?
We don’t recommend running both the 5G internet and your existing business internet service at the same time, as Wi-Fi networks can interfere with each other and cause device connection issues. We recommend you unplug your old modem completely before setting up your new 5G modem.
If you’re happy with your 5G internet service, we recommend you cancel your old internet service to avoid paying for a service you’re not using.
When I connect to 5G Internet, do you disconnect my old Telstra internet service?
No, your existing Telstra internet service remains connected. This is so you can confirm that you're happy with your 5G internet service.
Once you're happy, you can cancel your old internet service.
Can I use the 5G modem off-site, or at another address?
No, your 5G modem is locked to the address you provide when you take up your 5G internet plan, which means you can only use the 5G internet service while at that address.
If you are moving to a new address, you'll need to cancel your existing 5G Business Internet service and order a new one.
Is 5G internet safe?
Yes. 5G Internet uses the same technology as the 5G mobile network and has been extensively tested to ensure it meets independent health authority requirements.

Wholesale Business Internet™
On the Telstra Fibre Network
Partner with us
With Wholesale Business Internet, Small and Medium businesses get instant access to Australia’s best-in-class network. So when scale meets speed, the possibilities for growth are endless.
What’s next doesn’t have to wait, with a blended mobile and fibre internet connection - Rapid Mobile Activation. A new service making all the power of Telstra’s mobile network and unlimited data available to customers from the get-go. All you need to do is pop a SIM in your BYO device and it’s ready to be configured, tested, and deployed. And for ongoing peace of mind? Mobile Backup can automatically switch your customers’ connection over to mobile if their fibre service is interrupted.
Connect customers faster with Rapid Mobile Activation
Wholesale Business Internet™ (WBI) is a complete, ready-made internet service, built on Telstra’s best-in-class fibre network.
It’s built for simplicity, with everything included. Wholesale Business Internet gives you access to Telstra’s fibre network, internet access, IP addresses, monitor points and access to Telstra Wholesale’s Managed enablement Service Hub (or MESH) to help you configure the service. It is symmetrical, offers both contended and uncontended service levels, with a wide variety of bandwidths to suit different business uses from browsing to video conference and e-commerce.
That means no network, no head ends or network-build skills needed. Just best-in-class internet, at the bandwidth and speed your customers require.
Rapid Mobile Activation can be added to new or inflight orders. Order SIMs in MESH and we will ship them to you. When you're ready, add the SIM details to the fibre order then insert the SIM in your BYO device. The service activates after 100MB of data is used sp you can test the device prior to deploying it.
With Rapid Mobile Activation you can choose speeds up to 20Mbps, up to 50 Mbps or up to 100 Mbps in case you want to match the speed of the primary fibre service. Billing for the Rapid Mobile Activation service ends when the fibre service is installed.
There's no usage cap for Rapid Mobile Activation. This helps avoid bill shock and makes the service simple for you to manage. You can check usage at any time by looking at the service details in MESH.
The mobile service options for Wholesale Business Internet use part of the Telstra Mobile Network. You can check coverage here . You may be able to maximise signal strength at your customer's site using an external antenna.
You can add Mobile Backup to a new fibre order or add the feature at anytime during the term of a service. It could be a great re-term opportunity.
Mobile Backup can also be ordered in conjunction with the Rapid Mobile Activation service so once the fibre service is installed the Rapid Mobile Activation ceases and the same mobile connection is converted to Mobile Backup.
You can choose speeds up to 20Mbps, up to 50Mbps or up to 100Mbps if you want to match the speed of the primary fibre service. If there is a fibre outage, your customer can use the Mobile Backup service with no usage cap until the fibre service is restored. (However if the Mobile Backup service and the fibre service are both used simulataneously, mobile charges do apply).
Plug and play simplicity
No more wondering what's included - it is a fully integrated layer 3 solution. Internet access, IP addresses, full access connection, all within an easy to use ordering & management system "Managed Enablement Services Hub”.

Read more about Telstra's business broadband plans
In the 21st century, making sure your business is connected all the time is essential, so choosing a business broadband plan that offers peace of mind with your connectivity is wise.
Telstra offers a selection of business broadband plans for all different connection types, including ADSL , mobile broadband and the NBN. All are available on no-lock-in, month-to-month contracts.
For fixed-line broadband connections, you'll receive a modem router with your service as well as a static IP address for your business. If you cancel your contract within 24 months of connecting, you'll need to pay out the remaining cost of the included modem at a rate of $9 per month remaining.
Some business broadband bundles also include the peace of mind of switching to the Telstra mobile network during a fixed-line outage, unlimited uploads with any uploads you make not counted as part of your monthly quota, and the ability to include business apps like Office 365 in your monthly broadband bill.
As the country's largest provider of broadband and mobile services, Telstra is available practically everywhere in Australia, making it an easy choice for small business owners.
Because Telstra has traditionally run a lot of the fixed-line infrastructure in Australia, it has always charged a premium price for its plans, which it justified by the premium network it offered to its customers. For business customers, there is still a premium attached to Telstra's costs, though the fact you can combine your business applications, services and work phone line into a single account helps explain some of this extra cost.
Telstra has recently launched the Telstra Plus program, which allows customers (including small businesses) to earn points monthly when they pay their bill. Via the Telstra Plus store, customers can redeem their points on devices, accessories and more. Telstra also offers free, dedicated small business support specialists in-store to give your business the help it needs, so you can get the most from your business broadband connection.
Is Telstra more expensive than Optus?
Generally, Telstra is more expensive than Optus , which the company generally states is due to its extensive network coverage, customer service, better coverage and premium services. If you're looking for options for your business, you can also explore business broadband plans to find the right fit.
Can I get a better deal with Telstra?
It depends on the product and service you're looking for. You may be able to get a better deal with Telstra by negotiating your contract, bundling services or taking advantage of promotions, as Telstra often provides discounts for new customers or those bundling multiple services. However, there may be better broadband deals available with other providers.
Do Telstra business accounts earn points?
Yes, Telstra business accounts can earn Telstra Plus points, which can be redeemed for a variety of rewards including tech gadgets, gift cards or services. This is similar to Telstra's consumer rewards program, but it's tailored for businesses.

Important information about this website
Advertiser disclosure.
finder.com.au is one of Australia's leading comparison websites. We are committed to our readers and stands by our editorial principles
We try to take an open and transparent approach and provide a broad-based comparison service. However, you should be aware that while we are an independently owned service, our comparison service does not include all providers or all products available in the market.
Some product issuers may provide products or offer services through multiple brands, associated companies or different labeling arrangements. This can make it difficult for consumers to compare alternatives or identify the companies behind the products. However, we aim to provide information to enable consumers to understand these issues.
How we make money
We make money by featuring products on our site. Compensation received from the providers featured on our site can influence which products we write about as well as where and how products appear on our page, but the order or placement of these products does not influence our assessment or opinions of them, nor is it an endorsement or recommendation for them.
Products marked as 'Top Pick', 'Promoted' or 'Advertisement' are prominently displayed either as a result of a commercial advertising arrangement or to highlight a particular product, provider or feature. Finder may receive remuneration from the Provider if you click on the related link, purchase or enquire about the product. Finder's decision to show a 'promoted' product is neither a recommendation that the product is appropriate for you nor an indication that the product is the best in its category. We encourage you to use the tools and information we provide to compare your options.
Where our site links to particular products or displays 'Go to site' buttons, we may receive a commission, referral fee or payment when you click on those buttons or apply for a product. You can learn more about how we make money .
Sorting and Ranking Products
When products are grouped in a table or list, the order in which they are initially sorted may be influenced by a range of factors including price, fees and discounts; commercial partnerships; product features; and brand popularity. We provide tools so you can sort and filter these lists to highlight features that matter to you.
Terms of Service and Privacy Policy
Please read our website terms of use and privacy policy for more information about our services and our approach to privacy.
We update our data regularly, but information can change between updates. Confirm details with the provider you're interested in before making a decision.
