Associate in Science in Nursing Admission Requirements
- The GPA used for acceptance into the nursing program will be based on your grades in the following courses, which must be completed at the time of the nursing application deadline. Prerequisites for the associate in nursing are:
- NURS 311, MATH 106 (or higher), PSYC 101, CHEM 109 or 110, BIOL 110 and 110L, BIOL 223 and 223L, and BIOL 326 and 326L.
- You must have a minimum GPA of 2.75 for general education, mathematics, science and nursing prerequisite classes.
- No class may have a grade of less than a C.
- Satisfactory HESI A2® score, taken at Columbia College.
- Possess the necessary functional abilities to provide safe and effective patient care.
- Provide your active LPN license
- Include relevant information in the application packet.
- Urine drug screening (details provided upon selection).
- Submission of physical examination forms and immunization records.
- CPR certification, either via the American Heart Association's Health Care Providers course or the Red Cross Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
- Apply to Columbia College.
- Complete prerequisites and the entrance exam .
- Submit the ASN Application with either Job Shadowing Form or the Healthcare Experience Resume.
RN to BSN Admission Requirements
- Apply or re-apply to Columbia College via the online undergraduate application
- This is how Admissions verifies you graduated and have your RN license.
- By selecting the proper location, including online and evening, you help ensure you are charged proper tuition.
- Wait for confirmation that the location you applied to has processed your request.
- You will be assigned a new academic advisor based on your location.
- With your advisor, select your first RN to BSN classes.
- Completion of the online undergraduate application
- Completed associate degree in nursing
- Successful completion of National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses
Bachelor of Science in Nursing Admission Requirements
- The GPA used for acceptance into the nursing program will be based on your grades in the following courses, which must be completed at the time of the nursing application deadline. Prerequisites for the bachelor's in nursing are:
- MATH 110, MATH 150, MATH 250 or MATH 201
- PSYC 101, ENGL 133w, CHEM 109 or CHEM 110, BIOL 110 and 110L, BIOL 223 and 223L, and BIOL 326 and 326L.
- No class may have a grade of a D or less.
- Possess essential functional abilities spanning behavioral, cognitive, communicative, professional, psychomotor, and sensory skills.
- Emotional and Behavioral Competence:
- Uphold therapeutic relationships with all stakeholders: patients, families, students, faculty, and professionals.
- Demonstrate emotional resilience and ensure timely delivery of patient care responsibilities.
- Cognitive Skills:
- Assess, apply, and critically evaluate knowledge both in academic and clinical settings.
- Communication Proficiency:
- Exhibit therapeutic communication skills, encompassing both verbal and written mediums, with students, faculty, patients, and other professionals.
- Professional Conduct:
- Uphold ethical and legal nursing practices.
- Commit to continuous learning and adhere to professional nursing standards.
- Provide competent care across diverse patient groups and adapt to dynamic clinical scenarios while preserving professionalism.
- Physical Coordination and Strength:
- Showcase coordination, strength, dexterity, and balance for precise patient assessment and care tasks.
- Sensory Perception:
- Utilize essential sensory functions, including vision, hearing, touch, and smell, to comprehensively analyze patient data and deliver safe care.
- Apply to Columbia College as a freshman or transfer student (not required for current Columbia College students)
- Complete the necessary courses and achieve a favorable score on the HESI A2 ®.
- Submit the BSN Application with either Job Shadowing Form or the Healthcare Experience Resume.
