It is believed that the scarcity of fresh water has become a pressing concern for the environment worldwide. The following essay will elaborate on the challenges and resolutions to tackle these problems.

On the one hand, numerous problems can happen due to the lack of fresh water. To start with, it will be difficult for domestic and industrial users to cut down on the water they use. To elaborate, fresh water has played a pivotal role in human activities daily. For people who have to earn their living from their farms, for instance, the paucity can hamper the enhancement of their fields due to the reason that they have no options to water their florals well enough and raise their cattle. Moreover, because freshwater plays a pivotal role for many species, there will be a lack of food sources. That is to say, because water is a natural habitat for numerous flora and fauna, numerous species will be on the brink of extinction when their habitat is lost. As a result, a domino effect can occur, resulting in the upheaval of the natural food chain.

Nonetheless, the appropriate measures that the individuals and the governing body can take to address the concerns of a shortage of fresh water. Firstly, national leaders must pass myriad regulations to battle these problems. It is undoubtedly true that human activities, especially disposing of chemicals in the water, significantly harm the water. Because of this situation, if the government imposes heavy fines on those who pump waste into the water, they will pay more attention to protecting the environment. Furthermore, individuals should be responsible for solving these issues by using fewer plastic products. Plastic bags are one of the biggest threats to freshwater because they are non-biodegradable. In the long run, they will stay in the ocean for billions of years. Not only do they pollute the water, but they also make numerous aquatic creatures fall victim to microplastics.

In summary, the loss of food sources and the limit on using water can happen when the water shortage worsens. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the governments and their residents to tackle these problems by introducing rules and the usage of plastics.

Meaning – a point at which something, typically something unwelcome, is about to happen; the verge. Example – I was on the brink of being unconscious after fasting.

Meaning – a violent or sudden change or disruption to something. Example – Benjamin says that he can’t face the upheaval of moving house again.

Meaning – a countless or extremely great number of people or things. Example – Interior designs are available in a myriad of colours.

Meaning – a statement of an intention to inflict pain, injury, damage, or other hostile action on someone in retribution for something done or not done. Example – Sometimes, politicians receive death threats from the opposition.

Meaning – a person harmed, injured, or killed as a result of a crime, accident, or other event or action. Example – Naina was a victim of sexual harassment at the workplace.

Meaning – make determined efforts to deal with (a problem or difficult task). Example – I have no idea how to tackle the situation in my favour.

Water scarcity is a pressing issue throughout the world. India is no exception to the scenario. A report by NITI Aayog in 2019 confirmed how India is plagued by arguably the largest water-related crisis today, where a whopping 600 million of the country’s population are deprived of water. 

These reports have also stated that 21 major cities, including metropolises like Hyderabad, Bangalore, Delhi, and Chennai, will end up depleting their resources of groundwater over the next few years. Water scarcity has been caused due to a combination of factors in the country. These include privatization and rampant flouting of norms by industries along with faulty execution/planning by the government, human and industrial waste, pollution, and red tape. 

By the year 2050, water scarcity in the country is expected to acutely get worse, with a population increase forecasted to 1.6 billion people. There are still seeds of hope, especially on the back of measures like the  Jal Jeevan Mission and others. Several state governments and urban development authorities are also taking steps to lower overall dependence on groundwater and drive a shift towards potable water in several areas. Awareness campaigns are also on the rise, encouraging water conservation. We also need more rainwater harvesting and water recycling programs in order to tackle the issue from a long-term perspective. To conclude, I would like to state that water is the most precious resource of all. We cannot survive without it. Hence, governments, individual citizens, agencies, and all other stakeholders should come together to  save water as much as possible.

Water scarcity is perhaps the biggest problem affecting India today. The government has officially released its blueprint under the  Jal Jeevan Mission in the 2021-22 Union Budget, allocating Rs. 2,87,000 crore for ensuring water supply to 4,378 towns in total. Tap-drinking water will also be supplied by the government to all households in rural zones by the year 2024. 

While these measures are aimed at addressing the acute shortage of water throughout the country, especially in rural and semi-urban areas, a lot more needs to be done. Some of the biggest reasons behind water scarcity include inefficient and wasteful usage of water for industries, agriculture, and other activities. Pollution and drainage of wastewater are other reasons along with rising construction, and the reduction in water recharging mechanisms for groundwater. There is also the absence of a proper water management and distribution blueprint, especially in urban areas, which emphasizes minimal wastage and resource optimization. 

Groundwater resources are depleting swiftly while draining industrial and sewage-related waste into water bodies is hindering potable water availability alongside. Some of the possible solutions include strict tracking of industries and agricultural practices to avoid inefficient water usage and dumping of waste. Governments can also consider public awareness campaigns for minimizing water usage in our daily activities including washing dishes, cars, and so on. Rainwater harvesting should be made mandatory for all residential projects along with water recycling facilities in neighborhoods. Concrete and sustained measures will go a long way toward helping us mitigate the problem in the near future.

There are many phrases for IELTS speaking that a candidate should practice beforehand. If you aim for band 9, you should know these phrases.

Water is in short supply in many countries of the world, but consumption of water by families is increasing. Why is this happening? What can be done to preserve water?

The subject of gradual increase in the consumption of water by families in recent times is quite a serious issue in modern society. We need to focus on the reasons with a close insight and possible solutions to this problem.

As we all know in modern world crisis of water is a big issue and if not handled carefully it will lead to serious concern for everybody. Water is being used in each and every sectors starting from the industries to the household requirements. The usage of water has increased manifold in the families and one of the major reasons behind this is higher number of sophisticated items utilized nowadays. This includes varieties of washing machines, dishwashers, high end bathroom fittings and items keep on increasing in a rapid way to suit the requirements of the customers.

Turning to the possible solutions of this problem, firstly we need to educate ourselves. It is to be understood that the source of water used by us is not unlimited and every effort shall be made to preserve and minimize the losses. A range of media advertisements and awareness programs are already in place to keep people alert on this. In some countries, governments are increasing the bill for water consumption by few percentages to keep the situation under control. Also ,  in some countries , like Japan, taxes are being imposed for drained out quantity of water along with intake. This will definitely reduce the consumption as people know they will also have to pay for the drainage or sewage water.

Discuss both sides and give your opinion.

Many believe that it is crucial for governments to oversee public supplies of fresh water. In my opinion, this is an advisable strategy though there are natural risks that must be taken into consideration.

The most significant drawbacks to this proposal are the possibilities of government malfeasance and incompetence. Governments are notoriously bureaucratic organizations that often waste time and money while not greatly furthering the interests of the general public. A pertinent example of this would be the lengthy litigation battles concerning the cleanup of polluted reservoirs in many democratic nations. By the time any progress is made, the harm for some residents may already be irreversible. There is the chance that the government is corrupt. Firstly, on account of altered weather patterns, particularly arid climate, the countries such as India and Africa are encountering a shortages of drinking water. Secondly, the mushrooming of industries consumes enormous amount of water source and the wastage further pollutes fresh ground water. Finally, overpopulation has certainly skyrocketed the demand of water manifold. Also, although not a major cause, but careless attitude of people and overuse of household water has exacerbated this condition.

However, the solutions are available to tackle this issue. First of all, the government should initiate and strengthen the water saving systems such as collecting water in dams and reservoirs and reviving old ponds and lakes. For instance, a recent drought in India has alerted the government to renovate multitudes of water bodies. Secondly, despite being an expensive method, desalination and recycling of wastewater would definitely meet the water requirements of the world to a greater extent. A good illustration is Singapore, where the authorities effectively implement these means to produce fresh water.

On top of it, individuals' efforts in conservation of water resource by constructing rain water harvesting tank at home and avoiding lavish utilisation of water for household use would surely yield the desired outcomes.

The points I have hitherto considered lead to the inevitable conclusion that even though water shortage is an emerging global issue, mainly caused by urbanisation and overpopulation, various means and methods such as proper conservation and recycling can prevent this from worsening.

A serious problem affecting people right across the globe is lack of water for drinking, washing and other household purpose.

Why do many countries face water shortage, and what could be done to solve the issue ?

SAMPLE ANSWER

Water, in present times, has come up as a great issue, with most of the countries across world facing shortage of water. Although in present times, most people do have water, the day when one will have to fight for water are not far.

One of the major reason for the water shortage is, people often tend to waste water. For instance, it is a common sight to see people leaving the tap open while brushing teeth or cleaning face. Even more, some people tend to wash their clothes in river water leaving the water dirty and of little use in later. To solve this problem, the government could bring more awareness among people regarding the importance of water. Even more, the people in their daily routine, must take steps to save water.

Another reason for the scarcity of water is the unequal distribution of water. It has been seen that, the water supply to the minister and other celebrities is more regulated than to the common person. As a result, the poor is often left with no water or very little water for day to day use. The problem could be addressed by supplying more water to the poor, equalising the amount of water among all.

To sum up, although it is clear the world is facing an acute problem, it is undoubtedly possible to start to tackle these issues, and improve the quality of life. Governments and local councils must take the lead in dealing with the issue, otherwise life will only get worse in the future.

IELTS says that you should write a minimum of 250 words in writing task 2. If you go under word count you will lose marks in task response.

A very long essay will not give you a higher band score.
