Encouraging Appropriate Behavior Level B • Case 1 Background Student: Garrison Age: 7. Grade: 2nd Grade, 2nd Semester

Garrison enjoys hands on science activities, almost as much as he loves dinosaurs, robots, and computer games. Garrison also likes playing with building blocks, and will sometimes bring some from home to start with peers. Sadly, Garrison is failing his grade level requirements because of the math/reading portions. His teachers and parents are very concerned. Group Dependency Garrison is a 7-year-old and he is in 2nd grade, garrison is struggling with the math / reading requirements for his grade level. The best strategy for garrison would be data-based decision making, this is the process of collecting data and using the data to make instructional decisions, to decide which tier of instruction would best meet those students need so they can become more successful. Plan Implementation The plan for garrison would be to find how he responds to different instructions and collect that data and determine which needs / accommodations he needs to be successful in the same. We can try different learning styles, and record down that date to see which learning technique will be

best for him. Everyone learns different, and part of being a teacher is to identify this and see what works best for students.

Conclusions – Garrisons struggles with math and reading, he is a good classmate and enjoys science activities and using his building blocks. Garrisons’ parents and teachers are concerned because he is failing the reading and math requirements for his grade level, the best way to help Garrison is to find which way he learns best, and give him accommodations he needs regarding his disability.
